Humankind for Ukraine is committed to addressing the long term impact of the war.
Humankind for Ukraine is a global program that aims to restore dignity to displaced Ukrainians and seek justice for those affected by the war. We do so through ethical relocation across Europe, and by documenting crimes against humanity.
The international community mobilized to meet Ukrainians’ immediate humanitarian needs when the war began in February. As the reality of the protracted war and long term displacement settles in, it is clear that Ukrainians’ needs go beyond temporary provisions of food, clothing, and housing.
When we began our work with Ukrainian families in April 2022, we quickly understood the acute need for long term housing across Europe, employment opportunities, and access to quality education, healthcare, and mental health services. In the absence of a coordinated global response, and the slow pace of large nonprofit bureaucracies, we joined grassroots groups on the ground who banded together to help fleeing Ukrainians. We helped families living in temporary shelters in Warsaw to find new opportunities in Denmark, Switzerland, the UK, Belgium, and beyond. We sourced and sent food and medical supplies across the globe to aid in emergency response. But even during the height of the crisis, we prioritized sustainable solutions which take historic gender, political and cultural sensitivities into account.
Humankind for Ukraine is committed to establishing a historical record of the atrocities being committed within Ukraine. We are in the process of producing a documentary in collaboration with Ukrainian filmmakers on the history of the conflict. We also support accurate reporting by Ukrainian journalists working for independent outlets.
Seeking Justice: War Reporting and Documentary
We will chronicle the extent of devastation to Ukrainian society, democratic values, the nation’s cultural heritage and economic potential. We actively support Ukraine-based outlets such as the Kyiv Independent, whose award-winning team of young journalists have maintained cutting-edge reporting since the outbreak of the war. We are also developing a documentary feature that will document the war crimes and humanitarian toll of a nation under siege – fighting for all of humanity. We will use archival footage to depict the events that led Ukraine and Russia to another conflict point in their centuries-long history.
The Clooney Foundation for Justice’s Docket initiative uses an expert staff of investigators, attorneys, and advocates who work tirelessly to hold perpetrators accountable for mass human rights abuses against the Ukrainian people.
The Kyiv Independent provides vital war coverage from a group of young independent journalists. Our early contribution allowed the team to launch its war crimes investigation unit.
Restoring Dignity: Relocation
Humankind for Ukraine, together with a closely vetted network of local partners, connects refugees to housing, jobs and workforce training, language courses, access to healthcare, and education. We provide cash assistance, food, and cover housing & transport costs. Our signature program will relocate families to northern Italy. We will connect families to training and immediate job opportunities in the textile and fashion industries. Need help? | Потрібна допомога? | Нужна помощь?
